Is It A “Health-tech Company” Or A “Tech Company In Healthcare”?
Health-tech Companies are different from Tech Companies In Healthcare…
Healthcare professionals know everything about how systems work and what suits healthcare users. They are the ones who interact with the patient and client daily, and they understand what they want on a deeper level.
If clinicians aren’t leading, I mean clinicians with the proper education and experience, it isn’t a “health-tech company” but a “tech company in healthcare”. And we have many of them out there.
There are huge differences between health-tech companies and tech companies in healthcare.
One of the most significant differences is that clinicians are deeply and fully involved in designing, developing and leading the process of creating health-tech solutions at health-tech companies. In contrast, at tech companies in health, the involvement of clinicians is rarely felt or seen.
A tech company in health approaches healthcare very differently. They tend to focus more on technology and put the person aside.
This deficiency is almost always seen in their products and services.
However, a company that allows clinicians to get deeply involved in all the processes of design and development of products and services has a more profound effect on those who use the products and services (patients and clients).
On the other hand, healthcare professionals must also begin to grow and evolve if they want to be relevant and valuable in solving healthcare problems with technology.
They must acquire the needed skills combined with their core clinical skills as physicians, nurses, pharmacists, medical laboratory scientists, physiotherapists, etc.
Healthcare professionals know everything about how systems work and what suits healthcare users. They are the ones who interact with the patient and client daily, and they understand what they want on a deeper level.
When business and tech professionals launch out to solve healthcare problems using tech without deeply involving healthcare professionals, they will always fall into the trap of approaching healthcare problems as they do in other industries.
Healthtech(care) is different, delicate and fragile.
It’s not Fintech or Agrotech. It requires very specialised and practical knowledge, and the only people with this knowledge and experience are the healthcare professionals themselves.
You can’t design an effective health-tech solution without the full involvement of healthcare professionals.
It’s not just about the technology but about the people who use it.
Health-tech solutions are designed by putting the people first — It’s a very people-centric approach to solving problems.
Key Takeaways

Healthcare professionals must grow and develop their skills to be relevant and contribute to the health-tech world.
Healthcare professionals have much to contribute to designing and developing health-tech solutions. Without them, health-tech solutions will lack a vital component.
